EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Five more Albertans have died from COVID-19 in Alberta.
This comes as the province has confirmed 107 new cases of the disease, bringing the total in the province to 1,075 cases.
Four of those who died from the disease in the last 24 hours are said to have been people from the McKenzie Towne care facility in Calgary, bringing the total deaths at the facility to eight.
The fifth death, a concerning one for health officials, is a woman in her 20s from the Edmonton zone.
This brings the total death count in the province to 18.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says they are still working on figuring out if the woman had any underlying health conditions.
Some positive news, Alberta continues to lead the country in testing, having completed over 4,000 tests in the last 24 hours once again.
Premier Jason Kenney said that the number of testing is three times the amount being seen in Ontario.
So far, Alberta has conducted over 60,000 tests for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, some changes are coming to hospital visits in the province as well.

Some exceptions: kids being hospital having a guardian, for example. Possibly something for women giving birth, too.

Of all cases in Alberta, 39 are currently in hospital, with 15 in the ICU. In all, 74 people have been admitted to hospital in the province since the outbreak began.
There are also now 196 people who have recovered so far.
