Rachel Notley responded to Premier Jason Kenney's COVID-19 predictions in a livestream Tuesday evening

CALGARY (660 NEWS) -Following Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement and projections of how COVID-19 could affect Alberta, Opposition Leader Rachel Notley said she wants to see more initiative from the government to protect those most at risk from the COVID-19 virus.

Notley first addressed the possible predictions and said, although the numbers are troubling, they are within our power to control.

“Our ability to keep these numbers low is within our power and forms a shared responsibility for all Albertans,” said Notley.

She said every Albertan has a responsibility to consider other’s health and continue to follow guidelines put into place to limit the spread of the virus.

“The government also has a role to play and part of that is to take action to protect those Albertans who are most at risk.”

This means to both provide support to those working on the front lines in senior centres and making sure there is enough staff to operate fully.

“We know we’re not there yet, but we cannot expect these people to care for us if we don’t take steps to care for them.”

She said the government must also reopen the Emergency Support Payments to help Albertan’s affected by COVID-19.

“We’ve been hearing from these Albertans each and every day and we know this can’t go on.”

Notley said she offered a proposition to the premier that all parties come together to better work on a long-term plan to help Alberta’s economy get back on its feet.
