Work on our region’s continuing care centre carries on with only a core number of workers on site.

The Office of the Minister of Infrastructure said that construction of Willow Square is on track to be completed in May.

It said that work continues on various aspects of building commissioning, finishing installation of the geothermal system and completing millwork installation and painting.

“The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has presented unique challenges that may delay completion. We continue to monitor the situation closely and are absolutely committed to getting this important  project done as quickly as possible.”

While some material has been impacted by the pandemic, the contractor is looking at alternatives where possible and is working to finish the project as quickly as possible.

The $110-million facility will have 144 beds and deliver various levels of supportive living, long-term care and palliative care.

In November 2019, the provincial government announced that an estimated $57 million over two years would be put towards the continuing care centre.
