Alberta to send supply packages to other provinces in need during pandemic

Premier Jason Kenney announced Saturday afternoon that Alberta will be sending care packages to British Colombia, Ontario, and Quebec.

The items are being shipped next week and the packages will include N-95 masks, gloves, goggles, and ventilators.

“I want to stress for my fellow Albertans that we are absolutely confident that these contributions will in no way undermine our capacity to provide critical protective equipment and ventilators to Alberta’s medical professionals, to other associated frontline workers, and to care to those in need of it,” Kenney said.

Additional equipment will be available to provinces if needed.

On the state of COVID-19 in Alberta, since yesterday’s update thee has been one additional death related to the virus.

Cases have been identified in all zones across the province:

967 cases in the Calgary zone.

388 cases in the Edmonton zone.

99 cases in the North zone.

72 cases in the Central zone.

30 cases in the South zone.

4 cases in zones yet to be confirmed.

Of these cases, 47 people are in hospital and 13 have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

216 cases are suspected to be from community transmission.

The death toll is now at 40 in the province.

69 new cases have also been confirmed in Alberta, bringing the total to 1, 569.

The latest death was a resident of the McKenzie Towne continuing care facility, bringing the total number of deaths at this facility to 18, and 28 in the Calgary zone.

A total of seven people have died in the Edmonton zone, four people have died in the North zone, and one person has died in the Central zone.

There are now 774 confirmed recovered cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Starting next week, care workers will be required to wear masks at all times when providing direct patient care or working in patient-care areas.

Workers in long-term care facilities and supportive-living sites will only be allowed to work at one location.
