RRC adopts Supplemental Unemployment Benefit in response to COVID-19

The Regional Recreation Corporation (RRC) is transferring most of its employees to the Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (SUB) program.

Through the program, employees will receive 80 per cent of their salary or regular income through employment insurance and a top-up provided by the RRC.

RRC CEO Graig Walsh said that as a team they feel the program is the best choice for the organization.

“With the closures to all of the facilities we operate, there has been significant impact on our operating revenues as expected. Adopting an Income Bridging Support Program provides the RRC and its employees stability for the time being and will allow for sustained operations beyond this pandemic,”

Employees who have been transferred to the SUB program will continue to have access to their health and dental benefits.

In order to make sure facilities are operating, safe and maintained during the closure, 35 people will remain employed.

The RRC’s Senior Leadership Team will continue to work as part of those 35 positions while reducing regular pay to 80 per cent.
