The province reported a second active case of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray.

It also announced both active cases outside the urban service area recovered.

Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) data reporting centre is back online.

Dr Deena Hinshaw thanked workers for their round-the-clock work to repair the system.

There are 135 cases of COVID-19 in the North Zone.

Hinshaw also addressed the escalating pandemic situation in many of Alberta’s long-term continuing care facilities.

She said AHS took over administrative duties at the Manoir Du Lac continuing care home in McLennan, Alta.

“Earlier today, Alberta Health Services issued a news release indicating that they will be taking over administration of this facility after public health determined that protocols for keeping residents safe and well cared for were not being followed.”

Located in northwestern Alberta, Manoir Du Lac reported 37 cases of COVID-19 thus far, including five deaths.

The Alberta government reported 239 new total cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total to 2397.

This is the new highest single-day case count since March 4, 2020.

Premier Jason Kenney said the recent increase can be due to the increased testing by the province.

“As of today, we have conducted 89,144 tests and we have average 1974 per day since the fourth of March. AHS testing protocols have evolved during the outbreak adapting to the trajectory of the virus as well as the availability of testing resources.”

Kenney said there are no new deaths from the virus, and 1124 cases recovered.

To date, 50 people in Alberta died of COVID-19.

400 cases may be from community transmission from an unknown source.

The province completed 3,831 tests in the last 24 hours.
