UPDATE: Three new COVID-19 cases in RMWB

There are three new cases of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray’s urban service area.

This brings the total to seven active cases.

Alberta reported 187 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total to 3,095.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, also reported two additional deaths to bring that total to 61.

281 cases may be from community transmission.

She also said the province would expand testing at the Kearl Lake oilsands site.

Officials would swab all workers on-site as a precaution.

Also, any people who visited Kearl Lake prior to April 16, 2020, must self-isolate for 14 days from the time they left the site.

There are 20 active cases linked to Kearl Lake.

High Level’s Cargill meat-packing facility has 401 cases of COVID-19, and the JBS plant in Brooks has 77 cases.

She also stated there were 29 outbreaks of COVID-19 within the province’s long-term care homes affecting 367 cases.

Alberta Health Services also reported 1273 people have recovered from the virus in the province.

Alberta Health Sciences completed 104,370 tests.

Hinshaw encouraged any Albertan with symptoms to go through the online assessment and arrange for testing.

The cumulative and daily test positivity rate in Alberta is 2.6 per cent.
