In a press release Mayor Don Scott said his thoughts are with the people of Nova Scotia and all those who have been touched by the horrific events that have unfolded there.

“There are no words to truly express my sorrow at hearing of these terrible losses; I extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of all those we have lost. To the many Nova Scotians who now call our region home, please know my thoughts are with all of you. I know our entire country stands with Nova Scotia during this time of grief.”

Jamie Doyle, the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer said by lowering the flags it is a sign of solidarity.

“I know members of our staff with roots in Nova Scotia have been very moved by this tragedy, and on their behalf I extend my condolences, thoughts, and prayers for those who have been affected.”

The flags will be lowered through to next week as Wednesday, April 28, is the National Day of Mourning.
