Controlled burns will restart throughout Fort McMurray on April 27, 2020.
Regional Emergency Services (RES) will begin seasonal burn abatement work, or controlled burns in several areas of the urban service area.
RES staff conduct these burns each spring to remove dead and dry surface fuels that built up over the winter months.
By eliminating these hotspots, they reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.
Fire and smoke may be visible during this process.
RES assures residents that controlled burns, which will occur over the next few weeks, happen only when conditions are safe to complete the work.
