There is no threat to our food security during the flooding.

Outside of the evacuated areas, stores are readjusting their ordering.

Mayor Don Scott personally visited each of the stores north of the bridge this morning and says they have a strong inventory.

“I was in the room at one of the stores when they were doing the ordering. They are very confident they are going to have adequate inventory. I just want to reassure people they do not have to panic buy, there is no need to hoard any item.”

He said food security was one of Premier Jason Kenney’s concerns and after following up with the stores there is going to be enough supplies for the region.

Director of Emergency Management Scott Davis says they are working with restaurants, grocery stores and other food providers in the lower townsite.

“We will only allowed them back in when it is safe and prudent to do so.”

Mayor Scott has also been in touched with the The Wood Buffalo Food Bank after they have been displaced from the flood.

“They are being supported by Food Banks Alberta but they are also being supported by a very generous community.”

All community donations can now be directed to the Summit GM parking lot.

At this time a boiled water advisory is still in effect.
