Arts Council calling on artists and seniors to collaborate

Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) is partnering with St. Aidan’s Society to bring together artists and seniors to create art from a distance.

The Art of Conversation project will have artists creating art inspired from a phone or video conversation they have with a local senior or elder.

Luay Eljamal, ACWB programs manager said the program was created with the pandemic in mind.

“I think what’s great about this is that St. Aidan’s has identified a need for more psycho-social supports for the senior and elder communities…so hopefully what we are able to achieve is giving seniors the chance to connect with their community, engage conversations with others and hopefully help mitigate some of that isolation that they may be experiencing.”

Local artists of various disciplines will be paid $400 for their commission, that the ACWB has secured from government funding. There are no limits on the type of media accepted.

ACWB will begin hiring the artists based on accepted application that can be done online until all opportunities are filled.

Seniors can get involved by contacting Eljamal via email at luay@artscouncilwb.ca or by 587-674-1625 x.102. They will also receive an art supply kit safely through St. Aidan’s established meal-delivery program, if they also wish to create art for the project.
