FMPSD deeply impacted by the flood

The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) was deeply impacted by the flood.

Fort McMurray Composite High School’s main floor has been flooded and the school remains closed until further notice.

Dr. Clark Public School and the Division office were surrounded by water but did not get damaged. Both facilities lost power and remain closed until utilities are resorted.

No public access in all three buildings is allowed.

Composite High School and Dr. Clark staff have been moved to Westwood Community High School, while Division Office senior leaders work out of École McTavish High School.

The FMPSD continue to connect with over 725 students and families directly impacted. Counsellors are providing mental health supports to displaced students and staff. This will continue through the summer months and into the new academic year.

“We don’t know what recovery will look like at the moment, but, we are aware of the mental health impacts from last week’s flooding situation. While learning continues at home starting this week, we know mental health supports will be needed long into the future; helping our students and staff remains a priority,” said Jennifer Turner, Superintendent, FMPSD.

She thanks everyone in the community for coming together to recover from the flood.
