Six days of no new COVID-19 cases in RMWB

The province reported 54 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the total to 6017.

257 cases recovered from the virus to increase the total in the province to 3809.

Alberta also said two cases died in the last 24 hours to bring that total to 114.

The province suspects 704 cases are from community transmission.

There are no new cases of COVID-19 in Wood Buffalo.

Fort McMurray has a total of 22 cases, including 18 recoveries joining the two recoveries from outside the urban service area.

This is an increase of four recoveries from the 14 total recoveries reported yesterday.

This marked the sixth day the RMWB had no new active cases of COVID-19.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, provided an update on the COVID-19 outbreak at Kearl Lake.

To date, there are 99 confirmed and presumptive cases of the virus with 78 located in Alberta.

Hinshaw said lessons learned from the Cargill meatpacking plant assisted with the slowdown at Kearl Lake, which she added started about a week ago.

Premier Kenney commended Imperial Oil for following guidance from Alberta Health Services and prioritizing the safety of its workers with rapid testing and robust contact tracing.

Alberta also completed 174,327 tests.
