Laila Goodridge, MLA Fort McMurray – Lac La Biche,  said both Highway 63 and Highway 881 are not only important for our region, that are also an economic driver for our province.

“The project will help ensure this necessary transportation corridor is ready to support the region, while creating good paying jobs when they are needed most.”

Tany Yao, MLA Fort McMurray – Wood Buffalo, said he is glad that the Minister of Transportation, Ric McIver, is thinking of the community’s unique issues amidst all the other challenges the province is facing.

“I know that he has to review hundreds of project proposals and he listened to our constituents in Wood Buffalo about our roadway issues and is taking steps to ensure these are addressed.”

Minister McIver said Highway 63 is a well-used highway to and from the heart of the province’s energy sector and the governments priority is getting Albertans back to work.

“The north is and will be an economic driver for Alberta’s success, and these projects demonstrate our commitment to the Fort McMurray region.”

The 2020 Capital Plan has a focus on infrastructure that prioritizes job creation and economic growth. New projects will be worth an estimated $772 million.
