Auto collision near Redwater claims life of Fort McMurray man

Redwater RCMP announced a 46-year-old man from Fort McMurray died in hospital following a multi-vehicle collision west of Redwater.

The male driver succumbed to his injuries sustained in the accident on May 13, 2020.

RCMP said he, his wife, and their three children were travelling southbound from Fort McMurray.

The incident took place just west of Redwater on Highway 28 and Township Road 574.

According to police, another vehicle with a lone male occupant travelling northbound on Highway 28 collided with the southbound vehicle.

As a result of the collision, police blocked and re-routed traffic that intersection for approximately four hours as the collision analyst investigated.

Emergency personnel transported the northbound male driver and three occupants from the southbound vehicle to the hospital via ambulance.

A STARS ambulance transported the two remaining occupants.

No further details about the injuries of the others involved in the collision are unknown at this time.

While the police did not lay any charges, an RCMP Collision Analyst continues to investigate as they consider all factors in relation to the collision.
