UPDATE: New active case of COVID-19 in Janvier

Alberta reported one new case of COVID-19 in Wood Buffalo.

This snaps the streak of 12 days without new cases of the virus in the RMWB.

Chief Vern Janvier of the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation confirmed the new case in the hamlet of Janvier on social media.

There is now one active case outside the urban service area along with two recovered cases.

Fort McMurray has only one active case and 21 recoveries.

Alberta reported 50 new cases of COVID-19 across the province in the 4816 tests completed in the last 24 hours.

There are 6457 total cases, including 1131 active cases and 5205 recovered cases.

65 Albertans received hospitalization, including 10 who are in intensive care.

The province also reported one more death form the Calgary Zone to bring the death toll to 121.

In long-term care facilities across Alberta, there are 100 active cases of COVID-19, but 569 recoveries.

This marked the first day of Stage 1 in Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy for most regions in the province.

Limited services remain in the communities of Calgary and Brooks, which together see a disproportionate number of active cases in Alberta.

The two cities will reopen on May 25, 2020.

Officials also modified the geospatial map on the Alberta website.
