The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be provided funds for vulnerable populations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) COVID-19 Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations will be supporting the community as part of a donation to from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation.

In a press release, Mayor Don Scott, who sits on the FCMP Board expressed his thanks for the support during this particularly trying time in our region.

“Already facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a weakened economy, our community now finds itself recovering from a devastating one-in-one-hundred year level flood. I am very aware of how all this compounds together and the toll it can have on mental health. I am filled with a deep gratitude for organizations like the FCM, CMAF, and recent announcements from the Government of Alberta, as it relates to supporting the health and wellness of our residents. I encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out for support.”

Councillor Krista Balsom is also a member of the FCM board of director and stated that she is very happy for the support.

“Given the mix of urban and rural areas, and the current flood recovery we are working through, this funding is very well timed. There are a variety of options this funding can be used for, ranging from health and medical services to client support services. We will work to identify gaps in our urban and rural communities and see best where these dollars can be applied.”
