Slow housing market drops average sale price

Fort McMurray REALTORS® is reporting that the April real estate market statistics are looking similar to those after the May 2016 wildfire.

The report reflects the impact that the 2020 river break up flood had on Downtown, Waterways and Draper as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has slowed the market.

The average sale price of a single-family detached home has decreased by almost five per cent from January 2020 to April 2020 and sits at $500-thousand, which is a $25-thousand drop compared to 2019. Fewer of these homes are being sold compared to last year however there are about 17 per cent less being put on the market.

With the provincial government starting to decrease the restrictions during the pandemic, Fort McMurray REALTORS are reporting an increase in showings for the month of May.

In March, real estate was deemed an essential service.
