Nominations are now open for the 2020 Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards.

Also known as the Buffys, the awards recognize contributions that artists make to our region on a holistic level.

By nominating an artist, you’re also helping to raise their profiles as professionals, including adding to their portfolio.

Nominations are open to groups, individuals and there’s also an option to self-apply for an award.

There are 12 categories including Arts Administration, Arts Education, Craft, Creative Collaboration, Dance, Indigenous Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Ken Flaherty Music Award, Rising Star, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

The awards event is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2020.

“We realize there is still some uncertainty in the world with respect to event planning, but we’re moving full steam ahead with the Buffys,” says Luay Eljamal, Programs Manager for ACWB. “The format of this celebration will be determined soon with considerations for physical distancing as recommended by the Government of Alberta.”

Each award recipient will receive a $250 cheque, a certificate, and an award that has been hand-crafted by a local artist.

Short-listed nominees will also be recognized.

Nominations close July 15 at midnight.
