RMWB reopens some parks, outdoor recreation spaces
The RMWB announced the phased re-opening of select parks and outdoor recreation spaces.
This move follows the opening of Stage 1 in the provincial government’s Relaunch Strategy from COVID-19, which began on May 14, 2020.
Scott Davis, Regional Director of Emergency Management said the community did a good job following public health orders, but residents should remain vigilant.

“However, COVID-19 is still present in Alberta and we must continue to keep our guard up. We are counting on community members to use parks and outdoor recreation spaces responsibly. If this doesn’t happen, we will close these amenities again.”
The following Municipal outdoor recreation amenities are open to the public:
- Dog parks
- Municipal playgrounds (not including equpitment)
- Municipal Gardens
- Tennis Courts
- Basketball courts
- Ball diamonds without gates
- Cricket fields
- Green spaces in Municipal parks
- Running tracks
- Soccer fields and other sporting fields
- Skateboard parks
- Trails and walkways
- The Tom Weber boat launch in Waterways
Most amenities in the flood-impacted areas remain closed including the Snye and Raphael Cree boat launches.
Crews and damage assessment teams continue cleaning and assessing the damages.

Once complete, those areas will open.
Staying safe and next steps
Public health orders and recommendations such as physical distancing and not gathering in large groups of 15 or more are still in effect.
Orders also restrict organized sports, activities, and pick-up games.
Limit touching of hard and unsanitized surfaces in parks and outdoor spaces to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Individuals should refrain from sharing equipment with others unless they are from one household or family unit.

The Municipality encourages residents to continue taking hand sanitizer with them outdoors, practising handwashing, and other good hygiene.
If residents feel sick, the RMWB suggests staying home and completing Alberta Health Services’ online self-assessment.
The following Municipal outdoor recreation amenities are still closed:
- Municipal playground equpitment
- Spray parks
Crews are at work updating signage.
