Wood Buffalo RCMP are alerting people of potentially laced drugs after they responded to a suspected drug overdose and other related calls in Janvier on Friday, May 15.
The first response happened around 6:00 p.m., when RCMP attended a residence in Janvier, administered narcan to an unconscious adult male.
Once the male became conscious they transported him to the Janvier airstrip to await further medical assistance.
A second RCMP officer arrived at the airstrip and found the first officer in medical distress, and also went unconscious in the police vehicle. Narcan was administered to the unconscious police officer, who was transported by the regional emergency medical services ground ambulance.
The second RCMP response happened around 7:30 p.m. when RCMP got a call for help from another residence in Janvier, unrelated to the first. An adult male said he had picked up an unknown white substance from the ground along a driveway, and was in medical distress. This male was also transported to local hospital via ground ambulance.
Preliminary investigation reveals the first RCMP officer was cross contaminated with an unknown drug substance.
Police would like residents to be aware that street level drugs in our region may be unknowingly laced with drugs from the opioid family, such as fentanyl, carfentanil, or methamphetamines.
As the RMCP investigation continues police are requesting residents to contact them at 780-788-4040 if they find any suspicious substances, and avoid contact with it.
