Girls Inc. and Bouchier announce first 2021 Women of Inspiration nominee

Regina Oppon has been selected as the first Women of Inspiration nominee in the 2021 Series.

The Women of Inspiration Series is a five-year partnership between Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Bouchier to recognize and celebrate inspiring women in the Wood Buffalo Region.

Oppon was selected for her involvement in the community and dedication to supporting immigrant women and youth, especially girls.

She is the executive director of the Rehoboth Alliance which organized supper camps for children of low-income families and works on delivery programs that help women and youth pursue their full potential while addressing systemic barriers around gender inequality.

For the past 10 years Oppon has called Fort McMurray home and played a large role in establishing Black History month and International Women’s day events within the community. She has also been a board member with the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo and the Fort McMurray African Association.

Oppon will be one of five women who will be recognized through the Women of Inspiration Series. All the nominees are selected for inspiring other, igniting change and breaking new-ground for women’s and girls’ rights and opportunities in the community.
