Fort McMurray 468 First Nation introduces temporary isolation bylaw

A temporary isolation bylaw has been introduced for members of Fort McMurray 468 First Nation.

The bylaw ensures that members who leave the area of Fort McMurray must be prepared to isolate for 14 days upon their return.

Off-reserve members will also have to self-isolate for 14 days if returning to the reserve.

“What’s really important to know is that we have a lot of Elders in our community and this bylaw is a step to protect them and the health of our members, in general.”

The First Nation said if anyone is found to be violating the bylaw steps will be taken.

Those steps may include a warning, involving the RCMP or a Peace Officer, or ultimately, they may lose portions of their per capita distribution (PCD) payment.

There is security in place at main entry points to ensure only members and designated staff enter the reserve.

Non-members can drive through but can’t access these entry points.

The isolation bylaw was introduced by Chief and Council on April 17.
