Man sentenced to four years in prison following home invasion

Brent Goodridge pleaded guilty to manslaughter among other charges for his role in the home invasion killing of 20-year-old Brandon Stevens.

Justice John Henderson sentenced him to four years in prison on May 20.

Goodridge appeared in court via telephone from Edmonton.

RCMP arrested and charged Goodridge and co-accused Nathan Gordey for their part in the incident on April 29, 2019.

Brent Goodridge is the younger brother of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche MLA Laila Goodridge.

According to the agreed statement of facts, Goodridge, Gordey and Stevens carried out the home invasion of a Timberlea residence on April 29, 2019.

It’s alleged they intended to kidnap the homeowner’s 10 puppies.

In the ensuing home invasion, Stevens was shot and killed by the homeowner, who acted in self-defence.

Goodridge and Gordey fled the scene but Wood Buffalo RCMP arrested and charged them a day later.

Goodridge faced multiple charges of manslaughter, break and enter to commit robbery, and two counts of forcible confinement with a firearm.

The courts slated Gordey to appear on June 23
