Residents of Wood Buffalo have an opportunity to participate in virtual Canada Day celebrations.
The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo (MCA) invited residents to help with a virtual Canada Day “Song Book”.
Canadians of all ages and backgrounds may record their performances showcasing their heritage and culture singing O Canada in their home languages.
MCA Executive Director Therese Greenwood said there are more than 50 spoken languages in Wood Buffalo.
“We want to showcase the diversity of our region and our country with an online Song Book featuring our residents sharing their community pride by singing the national anthem in the language of their choice.”
Residents may also get creative with their performances and show what Canada means to them.
COVID-19 restrictions limit large gatherings, so organizations like the MCA look for new ways for the community to connect on July 1.
The MCA will upload submitted videos through its secure platform to the MCA YouTube channel.
They will feature them in local public forums for Canada Day celebrations.
MCA will also compile a multilingual version of the national anthem using the submissions.
The non-profit group asks all residents wishing to participate to adhere to the following:
- Arrange all videos in landscape orientation
- Be mindful of lighting
- Only play “O Canada”
Due to high demand, the group extended the deadline for submissions to June 19, 2020.
