Millions of non-medical masks now available to all Albertans

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The Alberta government says 20 million non-medical masks are now available.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced that beginning in early June, every Albertan can receive a package of four masks.

The government has already partnered with A&W, McDonald’s and Tim Hortons to have the masks available through their drive-thrus.

However, Shandro said these masks are single-use only.

“They’re not part of the supply of PPE for our health care workers and first responders. As the province relaunches and we all adapt to our new normal, we may sometimes find ourselves in situations where physical distancing may not be possible.”

Shandro said these restaurants have access to about 95 per cent of the population and no purchase is necessary to obtain the masks

However, they will be acting on the honour system, meaning Albertans will be asked to only limit themselves to one package per person

Another 20 million non-medical masks are expected sometime soon.
