Two additional deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta

The province has reported 19 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths from the illness.

145 Albertans died from COVID-19.

Alberta has 344 active cases and 6587 recovered cases with 48 people in the hospital, including six in intensive care.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said residents may make appointments to receive molecular testing on the Alberta Health Services website.

She said AHS will provide the province with a weekly report on asymptomatic testing.

Hinshaw added as more Albertans come forward, the more information health officials will have on the virus and contact tracing.

Alberta reported no new cases or recoveries from COVID-19 in the RMWB

Fort McMurray still has four active cases and 21 recovered cases.

Three cases outside the urban service area also recovered.

Hinshaw commended Chipewyan Prairie First Nation in her bi-daily update.

The Nation provided drive-thru testing for community members after announcing its first confirmed case of COVID-19, who previously recovered last month.

Hinshaw said she found encouragement in the low case numbers following Phase 1 of the Relaunch.

There are discussions between the Alberta cabinet committee and health officials about bringing up Phase 2.

A final decision won’t come until at least the next week.

Over the 24 hours, Alberta health officials conducted 4997 tests.

Labs completed a total of 271,298 tests on 244,780 Albertans.
