Fort McMurray 468 First Nation (FM468FN) Chief Ron Kreutzer and council are condemning the use of force displayed by Wood Buffalo RCMP against Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam.

Adam has alleged that Wood Buffalo RCMP used excessive force during a vehicle stop on March 10.

FM468FN said in a statement that it supports the calls for action and independent investigation by Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller and Public Safety Minister Bill Blair.

“We acknowledge that many good people serve as police officers and RCMP and do excellent work in our communities. However, incidents like these reinforce that the lives of Indigenous and minority people everywhere, can no longer be devalued, demeaned, and dehumanized.”

The First Nation also said that while driving with an expired license plate is a finable offence, it doesn’t warrant the force used by the RCMP.

FM468FN has zero tolerance for racism from any individual or organization.
