Two more COVID-19 recoveries as RMWB enters Stage 2

The Alberta government reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the RMWB.

The province also confirmed two cases of COVID-19 in the region recovered from the virus.

June 12 is the first day of Stage 2 in Alberta’s Relaunch.

Fort McMurray now has two active cases along with 21 recoveries.

All three cases outside the urban service area recovered from COVID-19.

Alberta reported 30 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths.

Alberta has 386 active cases, including 53 in hospital and six in intensive care, and 149 deaths.

To date, 6811 Albertans recovered from the virus.

As Alberta enters Stage 2 of its relaunch, its top doctor noted some troubling trends.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, says figures show an increase in alcohol consumption and purchases since public health measures were put in place.

According to the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, 1 in 5 at-home Canadians who consume alcohol began drinking daily since May.

“The AGLC has reported sharp increases in the sales of wine, beer, and liquor as well as cannabis.”

Hinshaw said high-risk use of cannabis and alcohol can cause other problems.

Alberta provides confidential addiction and mental health support through its website.

Alberta health officials completed more than 325,000 tests, including 7,746 swabs in the last 24 hours.
