System upgrade forcing Service Alberta to shut down motor vehicles services this weekend

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – If you’ve got a driver’s test this weekend, you’re going to have to reschedule.

The province is announcing it will be shutting down motor vehicle services this weekend to update its computer system.

“We appreciate Albertans patience while we make this necessary update,” says Nate Glubish, minister for Service Alberta.

The system will shut down for four days starting June 18 at 9 p.m.

It will be fully operational by 8 a.m. on June 23.

During the shutdown, all road tests and bookings, vehicle registration and renewals, driver license services and requests for drivers abstracts will be unavailable.

Glubish says the upgrade will help improve the service for all Albertans.

“I’ve been clear that I want to take Alberta from worst to first when it comes to online registry services. This update will enable us to develop such services including, for example, online driver’s licence renewals.”

If your driver’s license or ID card is set to expire during the shutdown, you’re asked to renew before June 19.

As well, any outstanding fines can still be paid online but registries won’t process the payments until June 23.
