Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced the public health emergency in the province will lapse.

Alberta first enacted the emergency for COVID-19 on March 15.

“I know that these past few months have been tough for Albertans, families, and communities. We’ve all had to make sacrifices and adapt to a new normal as we work to limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep our health system from being overwhelmed. We faced an enormous test and we passed with flying colours.”

Shandro thanked Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, for her guidance during the pandemic.

He added this will not impact or remove the public health orders Hinshaw put in place.

“All ministerial orders amending legislation made under section 52.1 continue for a period of 60 days, unless they are terminated sooner.”

Shandro said all Albertans must remain vigilant adding the government will introduce legislation this week to ensure it can respond to the pandemic.
