COVID-19 cases in RMWB rise despite positive update from Kearl Lake

Alberta confirmed three additional cases of COVID-19 in the RMWB.

Wood Buffalo has at least one new case of COVID-19 in each of the last four days.

Two new cases emerged in Fort McMurray to bring the total number of active cases to nine.

The rural service area also saw its third active case of COVID-19.

The region has 24 total recovered cases.

The report follows Alberta’s announcement yesterday of the lifting of the state of public health emergency.

Health officials in Alberta and B.C. declared the COVID-19 outbreak at the Kearl Lake oil sands facility over.

Imperial Oil Public Affairs advisor, Jon Harding said there were no new cases linked to the site since mid-May.

“We greatly appreciate the rapid response and outstanding support by Alberta Health Service, as well as the efforts by our workforce to adhere to all prevention measures, which has contributed to the prevention of new cases.”

Harding said Imperial Oil remains vigilant and continues to follow guidance from Alberta Health Services.

Alberta reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths in the last 24 hours.

The province has 449 active cases, including 36 receiving hospitalization, 151 deaths, and 6882 recoveries.
