Hinshaw recommends residents take summer vacation within the province

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw advises against anyone planning to take a vacation to another province as the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing.

“We do continue to recommend that Albertans travel plans stay within the province,” Hinshaw said during Wednesday’s update.

“Whether or not that changes over the summer is difficult to say.”

Although there is no legal requirement related to inter-provincial travel, Hinshaw emphasized the need to research your destination because of the variety of health orders.

“There are some provinces that do require 14-day quarantine if an individual is going into that province from another province,” she said.

“There are also provinces that are not allowing non-residents to enter,” Hinshaw added.

WestJet released its updated July schedule earlier this week which allows Canadians to fly to 39 destinations in Canada, five in the United States and one in Mexico.

It was also announced this week the Canada and U.S. border would remain closed to non-essential travel until July 21.

Both countries agreed to restrict crossing at the border back in March due to COVID-19.
