You can support Alberta-based organizations that support programs and resources for people living with disabilities.

The inaugural Walk & Roll Alberta will raise funds for five organizations, including Wood Buffalo You Can Ride 2.

Over the last three years Wood Buffalo You Can Ride 2 has provided more than 250 adapted bicycles to children with special needs in our region.

Allie Wait, a volunteer with the organization said that the virtual walk is a great way to explore the region.

“We have such amazing trails here. We have a community that loves to be outdoors. We absolutely love getting these bikes out to kids every year and we want to continue to be able to continue to do that.”

Money raised will go mostly towards buying bikes and parts for bikes, which Wait said can be quite expensive, some as much as $5,000.

Registration is now open for the non-competitive event.

Once you’ve registered you can log your kilometres online and potentially win prizes for participation, distance, fundraising or style.

The event runs from June 29 to July 12.
