The Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (WBEDC) announced its ‘Task Force’ compiled a final report.

The report from the Business Recovery Task Force will detail short-term and long-term recommendations for business recovery in the region.

Member Nick Sanders is the Interim Executive Director of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce.

He said the report covers the region’s recovery post-pandemic, flood, and oil price collapse.

“The Final Report reflects what we heard from the local business community and captures the important themes discovered from the engagements.”

Fellow member, and Co-Founder and CEO of Achieve Wellness Spa, Alethea Austin spoke about the importance of the Task Force.

“It was important to be on the Task Force to provide one of the small business perspectives. Our region has experienced the pandemic differently than other regions due to the compounding crises, therefore our response needs to reflect our unique circumstances.”

The Task Force will present its final report to RMWB Council on June 23, 2020.

Task Force Chair Kevin Weidlich said the report is critical to supporting Wood Buffalo’s economic recovery.

“The Final Report covers everything from immediate solutions, such as the WBCentral.biz portal to help businesses with business recovery, to the importance of long-term competitiveness to safeguard our region’s economy.”

Weidlich is also President and CEO of the WBEDC

The final report will inform the business and economic recovery plan, which the RMWB Council will also see on July 14, 2020.
