Mayor Don Scott thanks spring flooding volunteers

Mayor Don Scott said the Municipality wants to recognize all those who volunteered during the 2020 spring flood.

There are more than 750 people who registered during the flood and in its aftermath.

He said that number may be higher since many more volunteers did not register.

“Our region’s most treasured resource has always been our people. We were all reminded of this in response to this year’s flood, when our resilience was again exemplified by the people that stepped up to help their neighbours and our community during a time of great need.”

Volunteers made significant contributions during the flood.

These include serving at reception centres and protecting critical infrastructure like the hospital, courthouse, and Heritage Park.

Volunteers also assisted with the cleanup of flooded homes and even provided meals for evacuees.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to every person that volunteered and did their part during response to the flood and those who continue to help in recovery.”

The Municipality previously announced the lifting of the boil water advisory in Fort McMurray.
