MacDonald Island Park thought outside to box in its Canada Day plans.

The Regional Recreation Corporation (RRC) announced it will host a free, family-friendly movie night in the MIP parking lot on June 30 and July 1, 2020.

Kelsey Stefanizyn, RRC Director of Business and Events, said the event aligns with provincial health guidelines.

“While our celebrations are going to look a little different this year, we took the opportunity to get creative and we are so pleased to be able to host a select group of families at the Island for a movie night. It is a great opportunity for families to try something new and celebrate Canada Day safely.”

Physical distancing and capacity limits will be in effect during the events.

The RMWB and Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo (MCA) will provide pre-show entertainment.

Organizers will also treat residents to the annual Syncrude Grand Finale Fireworks display on both nights.

Families may submit an entry online into a lottery to win tickets to attend one of the movie nights.

The lottery runs from June 22-25, 2020.

Organizers will not permit access to MIP by vehicle, foot, or bike without ticket entry.

Residents may still see the fireworks display from different areas within the community.
