Keyano College announced the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) cancelled the fall 2020 athletics season.
On June 19, the ACAC reached the decision citing ongoing restrictions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The cancellation of the fall 2020 [season] is a disappointment to the Huskies athletes, coaches, and the College community, but our focus remains the wellbeing of everyone involved.” Said Jonathan Lambert, Director of Athletics, Sport and Student Wellness.
The College said the health of their student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans take top priority.
The ACAC did not render a decision on the 2020-21 athletic season.
Keyano said it anticipates training and exhibition play to resume between October and December of this year.
It also expects ACAC regular season play in volleyball, basketball and futsal with soccer deferred until the 2021 spring semester.
Keyano College and the ACAC said they continue to follow guidance from Alberta Health Services and the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
