Alberta reported 230 new cases and one additional death of COVID-19 in the province in the last 72 hours.

Premier Jason Kenney provided the update in his address on the Relaunch update.

On Friday, there were 54 new cases, and over the weekend the province had 96 and 80 new cases of the illness.

Kenney also spoke about large gatherings in Sylvan Lake and grocery stores, and many people not wearing masks.

He said that conduct could jeopardize Alberta’s process.

“We are not done with COVID, but we are learning how to live with it, and our future success depends entirely on not letting our guard down.”

Kenney said lack of physical distancing and inadequate testing will impact health care.

The province has 676 active cases, 161 deaths, and 7989 recovered cases of COVID-19.

Alberta reported two recovered cases of the illness in Fort McMurray.

There are only two active cases and 54 recoveries within the urban service area.

Two additional cases emerged in Wood Buffalo’s rural communities for totals of 15 active and 25 resolved cases.

Alberta previously announced an independent third-party will conduct a review of its pandemic response.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced another 20 million non-medical masks are available through the province’s restaurant partners.

“This is the only initiative of its kind in Canada and it’s a key support to our safe relaunch. Like other provinces, we strongly recommend people follow public health advice on distancing, and wear a mask when that’s not possible. And we’re the only province in Canada that’s backing up that advice with free masks to socialize their use.”

Shandro added 7-Eleven Canada volunteered to ship masks to transit services throughout the province.

First Nations and Métis communities, places of worship, social services, and senior care facilities will also receive masks.

Alberta Health completed 540,102 tests for an average of 6,892 since the start of Stage 2 in the Relaunch.
