Fort McMurray reaches significant COVID-19 milestone

Alberta reports no active cases of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray.

In its weekend report, the province said one remaining active case in the urban service area recovered.

Fort McMurray now has zero active cases and 56 recoveries of COVID-19.

According to the online map, Wood Buffalo’s rural communities has four recovered cases in the last 72 hours.

There remains one active case along with 41 recoveries outside the urban service area.

On July 17, Alberta reported two active cases of COVID-19 along with 37 resolved cases.

Across the province, the surge in new cases continues.

Spread over a three-day period, there are 368 new cases and three additional deaths linked to COVID-19.

Health officials documented 165 new cases on Friday, 106 on Saturday, and 97 on Sunday.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, previously said the next two weeks would be critical for new cases of the illness.

115 Albertans also recovered during that time span.

Alberta has 1109 active cases, 170 deaths, and 8308 recovered cases of the virus.

86 Albertans are now in hospital receiving treatment with 17 in intensive care.
