Alberta Health Services issued a warning to Albertans about reports of a phone scam involving COVID-19.
AHS posted a statement on its social media channels:
“We are receiving reports of a phone scam in which Albertans are told they have been potentially exposed to COVID-19 and need to be tested. The caller then asks for credit card information. AHS will never call & ask for credit card information. Please hang up immediately and report by calling the non-emergency line for local law enforcement.”
Wood Buffalo RCMP is aware of phone scams historically impacting residents in the region.

- Don’t share any personal information with a caller, such as your legal name, date of birth, social insurance number, address, etc.
- Don’t provide any form of payment, any personal banking, or credit card details.
- Verify emails sent by a caller because links in an email may attempt to steal personal information (phishing).
Since the April flood, RCMP received dozens of complaints about callers claiming they represented the Canada Revenue Agency.
