The Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity and Equality (RACIDE) is hosting Conversation Cafés to help shape the municipality’s plan to combat racism.

Black, Indigenous and People of Colour are encouraged to participate in the meetings to share their experiences of discrimination and racism within the region.

RACIDE Committee Member, Mitchel Bowers said that the move to host the events, which will be held through the month of August, was made after a June council meeting where a motion was made to have Administration work with RACIDE.

The motion included a list of actions that needed to be taken, including putting together a report and direct recommendations for council on what the municipality can do to combat discrimination and racism within the region.

The recommendations and report will be brought to council in September.

Conversation Cafés will be held via Zoom through the month of August.

  • Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.
  • Aug. 12 at 5 p.m.
  • Aug. 22 at 4 p.m.
  • Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.

You can register for any of the days by heading to eventbrite.

The cafés will be a safe place for people to share their stories and have their voices heard.

No personal information will make it into the report.
