Wildfire danger rating high in Fort McMurray Forest Area

The wildfire danger rating in the Fort McMurray Forest Area is high.

Alberta Wildfire said the rating for areas around Fort Chipewyan and Fort Fitzgerald is extreme as there are two wildfires in the region.

One wildfire is under control while the other is being held.

Before the August long weekend, Alberta Wildfire set the wildfire danger rating to moderate.

Since March 1, there have been 18 wildfires reported in the Fort McMurray Forest Area, including 13 human-caused fires.

The fires burned at least 275.73 hectares.
