COVID-19 rates slowing for young Albertans

Alberta reported one new case and one recovery of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray.

Fort McMurray has 11 active cases and 60 recoveries.

Outside the urban service area, there are still five active and 52 recovered cases of COVID-19.

New cases of COVID-19 across the province are under 100 for the sixth consecutive day.

In the last 24 hours, there are 56 new cases and two additional deaths of COVID-19.

One of the deaths is linked to the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre in Edmonton, Alta.

To date, 25 residents at the centre passed away due to COVID-19.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, thanked Albertans for adopting public health measures during the pandemic, staying home when sick, and caring for others.

Hinshaw also noted the rate of growth for Albertans in the 20-29-year-old age group slowed.

When asked about Alberta entering Stage 3 of the Relaunch, Hinshaw said the province’s focus is on the reopening of schools.

93 Albertans recovered from the illness in the last 24 hours.

Alberta has 1107 active cases, 205 deaths, and 9984 recovered cases.

76 Albertans in hospital, including 19 in intensive care.

Alberta Health officials completed 7987 tests in the last 24 hours for a total of 735,322 tests.
