Dr Hinshaw says COVID-19 remains strong in Alberta

Alberta reported three new cases of COVID-19 in the RMWB in the last 72 hours, including two in Fort McMurray.

Fort McMurray has 13 active cases and 60 recoveries, while six active and 52 recovered cases reside outside the urban service area.

The province made a correction in its COVID-19 reporting for the region.

Alberta’s geospatial map previously reported 53 recoveries among Wood Buffalo’s rural areas on Aug 7.

Alberta had 257 new cases and five more deaths from COVID-19 during the three-day time period.

The province reports 108 on Friday, 101 on Saturday, and 48 on Sunday.

There were 134 cases of COVID-19 reported on Aug. 7.

Two more residents of Edmonton’s Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre passed away.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said there were no new cases at the site since Aug. 2.

Also in the last three days, 287 Albertans recovered from the illness.

Hinshaw said Albertans between 20-39 years of age represent the most infected group.

The province has 1090 active cases, 213 deaths, and 10,384 recovered cases.

Hospitalization remains low with 66 Albertans receiving treatment, including 14 in intensive care.

To date, Alberta Health officials completed 770,266 tests.
