Participants will be able to ‘Enter Stage Right’ during Alberta Culture Days 2020 (ABCD) beginning this September.

Local independent theatre company, Theatre; Just Because (TJB) will host four free workshops open to all ages and skill levels.

Artistic Director Hanna Fridhed said it’s the fifth year TJB will participate in the month-long province-wide arts and culture festival.

“This year we are thrilled to be offering engaging workshops for all levels in a safety-conscious environment. Our workshops are all led by an incredible group of facilitators, from local artists to returning YMM artists. We’re excited to further develop the talent of our community.”

Fridhed added workshops will take place at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts every Saturday during ABCD.

“Acting 101” is an all-ages workshop that will introduce the five basic rules of acting to its participants.

Organizers will also run improv games, and provide tips on warmup techniques and what to do when things go wrong.

Stage Manager Geoff Jones teaches “Stage Management 101” answering questions about the role of a Stage Manager, getting started, and helpful tips and tricks.

Artistic Coordinator Jen Townsend will teach “Unblocking Your Creativity”.

The exercises will teach performers and writers techniques on how to focus and unlock their creative potential.

Children and youth between 12 and 17 years old may participate in “Youth Theatre”.

This youth-focused workshop teaches the basics of theatre through games and improv with TJB Youth Play Instructors, Bailey and Emma.

  • Acting 101: Sept. 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
  • Stage Management 101: Sept. 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
