The Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) has reported improved home sales in July, compared to the same period last year.

Sales of single family detached homes increased by 26 per cent, while townhouses increased by 300 per cent.

Apartments on the other hand saw a decrease in sales of 25 per cent, and a drop in average sale price of 21 per cent.

The average sale price for an apartment is now $114,067.

The average sale price for a single family detached home was three per cent lower in July compared to the same period last year. It now sits at $474,462.

While home sales in the area have improved, AREA has reported the lowest inventory levels on the market since July 2007.

That reduction in inventory has helped create some stability in monthly prices.

There are currently 427 units in inventory.
