EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – After being put on pause due to COVID-19, parking fees are coming back to Alberta hospitals.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced the fees will be reinstated for employees on Aug. 31 and the public on Sept. 1.
The agency suspended the fees back in April saying many health care professionals were working at various sites and at home during this pandemic and removing parking fees would make that transition easier.
However, AHS noted it was only meant to be a temporary measure as it anticipated a monthly loss of $7.6 million.
Some changes have been made to ensure safety such as regular cleaning of parking payment machines, and signs encouraging physical distancing.
While people are encouraged to download the AHS parking app you can still use coins or cash, and fees will be the same as they were before the pause.
