Suncor Energy confirmed a fire at its operations at Base Plant.

Spokesperson Jessica Depencier said there were no reports of injuries.

“At approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 14, Suncor’s Emergency Services Department responded to a fire in the Extraction area of our Base Plant operations. The fire was contained shortly thereafter. It was declared fully extinguished early this morning after emergency services responded to small spot fires overnight.”

Depencier said Suncor evacuated immediate and surrounding areas of all personnel.

The immediate area of the fire remains off-limits while the company completes its safety assessments.

“Our first priority is the safety of our employees, contractors and neighbours. We will conduct a full investigation into the cause of the fire so we can prevent this type of incident from occurring in the future.”

She said Suncor also notified appropriate regulators, including the Alberta Energy Regulator.
