89 new COVID-19 cases, one additional death

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Alberta identified 89 new cases of COVID-19 after conducting 8,027 tests in the last 24 hours.

One additional death was reported on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 225.

The number of active cases in the province is 1,169.

Cases by each zone across the province:

  • Calgary zone: 295
  • Edmonton zone: 636
  • South zone: 39
  • North zone: 107
  • Central zone: 87
  • Unknown: 5

There are currently 48 people in hospital, 11 of whom are in intensive care.

At least 30 COVID-19 cases are linked to two religious activities in Alberta.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says 15 cases are connected to the Bible Pentecostal Church in Edmonton.

Another three cases have been linked to a religious gathering in Deadwood located in northwestern Alberta, bringing their total to 15.

“An estimated 200 to 300 attended over the course of the three-day gathering,” Hinshaw said.

“We are working with B.C. Health to ensure contact tracing is completed for all those who attended.”

Hinshaw asked those who attended the gathering in Deadwood between July 30 and August 2 to get tested.
